Ultra-Catholics up in arms against abortion [slideshow]

Far right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen wants to stop refunding abortion. When people realized that despite her “dediabolization” strategy, she was standing her ground on this proposal, there was quite a political circus. But there are some people out there who are boiling with rage for another reason. For them, Marine Le Pen ought to be against abortion, period. Isn’t she the leader of the far right?
“Genocide! Murderers!”On a regular basis, ultra-Catholics yell in front of Tenon Hospital, one of the few places in Paris where women can have an abortion. After hitting the headlines with protests against “blasphemous” theatrical performances, they are hoping to catch the spotlights again by breathing new life into pro-life protests.
Press play and plunge into the world of pro-life hardcore Catholics…
There is a reason for this. The Ultra-Catholics are now at odds with the National Front 2.0. The party used to be a hotbed for hardcore Catholics dissatisfied with Vatican II. Now it is led by a divorcee sans foi ni loi. God helps those who help themselves; the ultras have decided to take their destiny into their own hands. And so here they are, in front of the hospital.
“I understand that in politics you have to advance with caution, but I am not sure Marine Le Pen is genuinely against abortion and I am not sure that in her mind, stopping refunding abortion is only a first step towards re-criminalizing abortion”, explains Alain Escada, the president of the Civitas Institute, a group of fundamentalist Catholics that hopes to grow large enough to weigh in the political debate.
“It is the genocide of the XXIst century and we need to stop it now”, hammers Louis Marie, a young Catholic.
In France, such a strong position is a rarity. Passers-by look at the rabble-rousers with wide eyes and leftists demonstrate against them on the other side of the police cordon.
